The way we call Lunar New Year is TẾT. Having been living away from home country for many years now I feel blessed to celebrate Tết this year in my lovely Vietnam where I call home forever.
Today is the last day of 2021 in lunar calendar and traditionally we prepare a meal for our ancestors to return and join us for the celebration. We plate all the dishes on a table, and ignite an incense stick, and the smoke shall guide them home. When I was young I didn’t much understand this ritual and kind of hated it because of all the cleaning up. But now living among different cultures I just found it so beautiful.
The year 2021 was a year of despair for me when I lost my father, my most beloved one. Tết was his most favorite celebration of the year. It is still weird having the celebration without his presence, but I hope he can find the way to his favorite food I made for him this year at home 🥰
On this table there are: Young coco tree & tofu stew with green pepper; Stir fried veg with wood ear mushroom; Stuffed bittermelon soup; Seaweed patty & Grilled eryngi. All served with white rice.
Please join us. Chúc mừng năm mới.
